There is something about Fall that just makes the mountains come alive with awesome events. Starting out our featured events this Autumn is Oktoberfest At Ober from Sept. 25 - Nov. 2. Ober Gatlinburg is celebrating October with a fantastic festival featuring Bavarian-Style food drink and music. Help Ober celebrate the 205th anniversary of the popular festival held in Munich Germany. Enjoy the Bavarian Fun Makers Band in authentic costumes as they perform traditional folk dances oompah music yodels and more with daily shows. Special Oktoberfest beers will be on tap along with traditional German wurst schnitzel sauerkraut strudel pretzels and more. Drive up Ski Mountain Road or take the tram to enjoy this fantastic event On Nov. 11 come and sample mouth-watering recipes of homemade chili ranging from mild to wild at the Winter Magic Kickoff Chili Cookoff. The city of Gatlinburg hosts this 26th annual event from 5 - 8 pm in downtown Gatlinburg along the Parkway. The event features the ceremonial lighting of more than 3 million lights that make up the Gatlinburg winter wonderland known as Winterfest. Those attending are encouraged to vote for their favorite chili to help determine the Peoples Choice Award for the most popular recipe. Other awards include best presentation best chili apron and best overall chili. Excitement is really heated up with the hot-chili eating contest where contestants will consume increasing level of heat as it progresses. Last up is the Veterans Day Celebration which is also held on Nov. 11. Come down to Ripleys Aquarium Plaza and join Gatlinburg in saluting Americas Veterans of the Armed Forces. Stirring musical numbers and words of tribute honor those that have served America in a fitting and appropriate manner. The title Gatlinburg Veterans Day Celebration is an accurate description as they salute the service and sacrifices made by our veterans who are celebrated and thank those who gave and continue to give - so much to keep our nation free. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. and is free. Ripleys Aquarium of the Smokies does a fantastic job of offering new adventures to visitors and once again in 2015 they have stepped up their game with Swarm.
